Celebrating the 62nd anniversary?

On August 15, 2009 India will be celebrating its 62nd Independence Anniversary.

It’s a good time to wonder what the significance of the 62nd Independence Day is going to be.

Yesterday’s Page 3 supplement carried two young film stars promoting their new movie by turning guest editors of the paper. The paper was all about how Indians need the youth to guide them. It’s the age of the new youth who have very incisive questions for politicians but who refuse to enter politics themselves.

Which leads to the million-dollar question, what does India’s youth think about Independence Day? How will India’s youth reshape the 62nd year of freedom to something that will matter and benefit the country?

In the age of globalization and a flat world, what happens to the notion of patriotism? Is patriotism passe?

What does India’s freedom mean to you? What are your plans for August 15, 2009? Are you celebrating the 62nd anniversary?

Answer away or leave us a comment.

  1. I feel it as if yesterday, the british was leaving, embracing Nehru and Gandhi on the night of 14th. Whosoever, leaving and bidding good bye is sad.
Mount Battan and LadyMount Batton were weeping and the flow from their eyes were intolerable. What made them to weep and cry?

  3. Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo,
Jara aankh me bhar lo paani.
    Jo shaheed huye hain unki,
    Jara yaad karo Qurbani.

In Memorium of all those who sacrificed their freedom so that we could enjoy ours.

  4. I think the world is getting in to one thing day by day and that is humanity trying to make one world and one people theme (of course we have few people who don’t like such things) but Majority of people now-a-days are looking for Peace and Love. Having patriotism is getting old day by day cause we all humans live in one world. And patriotism is a selfishness in today’s globalization world.

To answer your question the feeling of patriotism will disappear and will only be in books after few years because people are becoming open day by day in everything and they will think that being patriot is selfishness for friend who are in other countries.

15th August will be a day to remember when legends fought for our freedom.

But the important thing to remember is don’t have a human hate the devil inside them.

  6. Always keep that pretty smile on that beautiful face reflecting hidden intelligence, no matter what. Now remember that is a genuine complement and no flattery!

Answer to your thoughts is in a quotation of Dr. Singh on ‘Human Development and Nature’ as below, at the level of your question and beyond,

“Even though every thing in this Universe is linked and interdependent like the web of a spider and in a cyclical manner yet there is no greater a joy then to be free and independent both at the individual and collective level, ie. as; a person, a family, a society, a culture, a religion, a country etc., etc.

Though every one craves for freedom and independence and cherishes it yet we all have a tendency to forget this blessing even when some times it is attained with real hard earned efforts, sacrifice and sweat and blood.

From the study of design and function of Mother Nature a vivid example is ones own (human) body. All cells individually and at subcellular level, atomic and sub atomic levels are independent units yet are interdependent, The same way cells of particular nature join hands together and form an organ that functions as an independent unit but still is interdependent in caring for the other organ systems, for itself and vice-versa constituting a live body which functions free and independently but takes care of all the organ systems who in turn are keeping it alive and functioning well. The similar fine events happen at interaplanetary, interplanetary, interagalaxy, intergalaxy level to the endless beginning and beyond!

So we may be free and independent, yet we are all interdependent and need to work in harmony as a Natures design and not by individual temptations.

Therefore, the extent of real/true freedom and or independence, attained by true spirituality is beyond any limits, is transcendental and is always in harmony with Mother Nature.

All is a matter of true knowledge, enlightenment and Thy Blessings,”

  7. I AM 21 YEARS OLD AND BELOW IS MY KIND ANSWER AND COMMENTS.

    WE ARE STILL SLAVES.
In my opinions we are not free of corrupt politicians. People who do not admit ARE coward and have not guts to accept the fact.

What freedom an average person has after 62 years? We have 70% of population making only $10 a day. Is that something to be happy about. NO, if you have a mind.

The one who says they are happy to be free, should I think look for a bowl of milk and drown in it.

DON’T YOU SEE HOW MANY WOMEN GETS RAPED. IN DELHI 1 RAPE OCCUR EVERY 24 HOURS. SO THAT IS 300+ RAPE IN JUST ONE YEAR. HOW HARD IS THAT TO UNDERSTAND?

  10. according to my opinion, people have lost the sense of patriotism.while i read this question this statement flashed in my mind (i.e)when jawaharlal nehru give his Tryst with destiny saying that we step from old to new, sure it did in case of the vast change in our patriotism where folks find time to go back of industrialisation.as far as india is concerned Did india discover herself?

  11. A lot has been said time and again on the whole issue – with or without any genuineness. To me the need of the hour is:

    Freedom in our Minds,
    Faith in our Deeds;
Responsibility in our Conduct and Behaviour
    Pride in our Hearts.

This small mantra could work wonders for India and Indians.

  13. Happiness of Freedom was what was in 1947 when INDIA became free from Britishers, their Law, their slavery and it would have been a great feeling at time.

Today after 62 years , its hardly celebrated by people. People have really forgot the struggle done by the freedom fighters for us to see this beautiful world in our own way. They should be remembered, thought about atleat today. Independence day has become like another holiday for most of us.

  15. Could you be so clear in voicing your words if you were suppressed by someone all the time??

Could you express your problems to your Boss who does not belong to your department and has the least idea how to do your part of the work??

    And just think..

How do you feel if a Professor or Some senior shows some bias and does not give you part in it?

How do you feel when your twin bro/sis gets more than half piece of cake and you get a small part of it?

    for all the above questions..

    The Answer is ‘Independence’!!

Major portion of Country’s wealth was being given or sent to England which could have been used in India and establish good facilities here..

Thats what our Brave martyrs have laid their Lives for!!

    Now,

If you feel Injustice is being done to you.. You can ASK for your right to get justice.. and thats the true meaning of ‘Independence’

  16. like many occasions celbrated for our joy and to revitalize our system indepedence and republic days are present in every country to make people believe in the system their country is made of.
on that day they make you remeber your part of this country and its responsibilites and also its burdens

sadly patriotism is best evoked by rivalry than by love

in pre-independence days it was against kings then british
now it is against terrorists and neighbouring countries ,thank god in india only the media and movies use it not the politicans to the maximum extent thanks to vast nature of our country and its people & there problems

But unfortunately the neighbouring leaders are using the same principal more violently .
they have made their people to forget their normal rights (minimum comforts of life -good food, home, education, love and happiness) and made them believe only terrorism will solve everything

i was shocked to find the motivation for terrorism is biryani unlimited, kabab, sharab etc ofcourse rest forever

so i feel it is good if we donot have extreme patriotism

  17. I think there should be national holidays as usual but everyone has to spend atleast that day for nation’s service and not for sleeping and enjoying. Every one should be accountable for non submission of that day’s activity for the nation.

  23. Hi Bhargav Sai,

Do try this link http://in.answers.yahoo.com/. It should take you to Yahoo! India Answers.
Another thing you can do is scroll to the end of the page. You will see a section called Answers International. Click on the flag/nation you want to visit. The Answers site of that nation will automatically open for you.

    I hope that helps.

    Cheers! And keep answering! :)
